It is important to understand the hair growth pattern on how to best achieve "permanent results".
Most importantly to understand that all follicles have three hair stages Anagen, catagen ant telogen and also to understand that each individual follicle has up to ‘three' hairs in each follicle present at different times over 16 weeks.

Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal which was invented over 100 years ago in the United States.
IPL and Lasers were designed around the idea of electrolysis however the delivery of the heat to the root of the hair is somewhat different.
During electrolysis, a probe is inserted into a hair follicle (like putting your hands into your pockets) and an electrical pulse is sent through the probe. If this particular hair follicle is in the "active" growth stage at the time of treatment, it will most often not grow again.
Though often there are three hairs growing at three different rates that sets the challenge of permanent removal.
At Glo the most commonly used energy is "the blend" however where applicable the other modalities maybe better suited to the individual and this is ascertained through a professional consultation of each individual client.
The blend method has in effect combined the thoroughness of the galvanic method and the swiftness of thermolysis method and these two methods combined have made the treatment electrolysis especially effective in treating all hair types. The blend also offers the technician to work much faster.
The use of a tapered probe inserted into the individual follicle and a specific technique called "progressive epilation" placed in the hands of a well trained technician has made it possible to treat every type of hair problem with great success.
Unfortunately this technique isn't commonly used by most salons and this often gives electrolysis the reputation to be slow, painful and tedious.

The Hair Growth Cycle
Hair follicles grow in repeated cycles. One cycle can be broken down into three phases.
- Anagen - Growth Phase
- Catagen - Transitional phase
- Telogen - Resting Phase
Each hair passes through the phases independent of the neighboring hairs.
Below is a picture of all the different stages of hair growth at one given time.
Anagen Phase - Growth Phase
Approximately 85% of all hairs are in the growing phase at any one time. The Anagen phase or Active growth phase can vary from two to six years. Hair grows approximately 10cm per year and any individual hair is unlikely to grow more than one meter long.
Catagen Phase - Transitional Phase
At the end of the Anagen phase the hairs enters into a Catagen phase which lasts about one or two weeks, during the Catagen phase the hair follicle shrinks to about 1/6 of the normal length. The lower part is destroyed and the dermal papilla breaks away to rest below.
Telogen Phase - Resting Phase
The resting phase follows the catagen phase and normally lasts about 5-6 weeks. During this time the hair does not grow but stays attached to the follicle while the dermal papilla stays in a resting phase below.
Approximately 10-15 percent of all hairs are in this phase at one time.
At the end of the Telogen phase the hair follicle re-enters the Anagen phase. The dermal papilla and the base of the follicle join together again and a new hair begins to form. If the old hair has not already been shed the new hair pushes the old one out and the growth cycle starts all over again.

In most cases, a client's hair problem will have emerged during puberty, pregnancy or menopause and these are the three major physiological changes which can occur within a woman's lifetime.
A brand new growth of hair does not spring from the soil like a weed; it requires encouragement. The general causes of that encouragement are two factors either together or individually.
1) Increase of blood supply to the immediate area greatly enhances its growth. (Usually by the pulling out of the hair - through waxing, tweezing or threading).
2) Hormone stimulation certain hormones, on the other hand, seem to have the capacity for initiating the growth of new hairs where none existed previously.
Then when the hair becomes apparent unfortunately we then often choose to use temporary measures of removal such waxing, tweezing and threading which in fact often stimulates the hair growth creating even more hairs, darker and thicker.
There is nothing simple about getting rid of unwanted hair, there is no easy over night miracle but there is certainly proven methods you can choose at any of the Glo locations.
